Your music and Rick’s coaching

Start a playlist in your usual music app, then open Heavy Bag. Use Preview Rick before starting a workout. Overall volume controls the device output for music and coaching together; Coach level adjusts Rick’s recorded track. The recording includes his voice, bag sounds and round signals. Keep music lower applies a steady reduction during your active workout, including rests, so the music does not rise and fall between spoken phrases.

If you cannot hear coaching, check Coach level, your device volume and the selected headphones or speaker. If another app pauses its audio, resume it there and return to Heavy Bag.

Make the workout yours

The classic six starts with six 3-minute rounds, 60-second rests and an orthodox stance. Choose another curated workout or customise the rounds, 2- or 3-minute work periods, 30- or 60-second rests, and orthodox or southpaw stance. Shuffle is optional and starts off: it changes the order of the available coaching rounds without repeating one within that session.

Apple Health

Connecting Health is optional. Follow the introduction in Heavy Bag Settings and allow the app to save Workouts and Active Energy. Completed sessions can then be saved as Boxing workouts, with estimated active calories. In Apple Health, look under Workouts for the session and inspect its data source; active calories also contribute to Active Energy. The main Active Energy chart combines activity from all sources.

If saving is disabled, check Heavy Bag’s Health settings and its permissions in Apple Health. Workout history shows whether a session has been saved. Heavy Bag does not read your Health history or measure heart rate. Calorie estimates use your manually entered weight and active boxing time, excluding rests and pauses.

Workout history and export

Your sessions are stored on your device. The share button beside Session history exports a CSV file through the iOS share sheet. Choose where to save or share it. You can remove local history in Settings. Deleting local sessions does not remove entries already written to Apple Health; manage those separately in Health.

Original coaching and technique

English and Spanish coaching and Rick’s original technique demonstrations are included. Learn the movements at your own pace, then put your phone safely aside during the workout. Use a suitable heavy bag, gloves and a clear training space.

Privacy

No Heavy Bag account is required. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app. Read our privacy policy for details about on-device storage, Apple Health and support emails.
